Cultivated Mirage, 2017

Repurposed garments, lumber, cardboard, vinyl, laser-cut foamcore

Site-specific installation, Approx: 18’ W x 4’ D x 7’H

With Cultivated Mirage, second-hand garments, printed cardboard and artificial plants are repurposed to create a pseudo-ecology, suspended in time between a symbiotic harmony, and utter collapse. Returning to my hometown of Miami in 2017 has been a mix of nostalgia and unease as I both relish the tropical landscape that I call home, while recognizing the fragility of our ecosystem. Taking inspiration from the organic detritus produced after Hurricane Irma the pieces entitled Detritus: Inversed, and Cultivated Mirage are manifestations of the contradictions that are omnipresent in South Florida.
